  • The Institute of Certified Management Accountant (ICMA) offers six grades of membership: Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Associate Management Accountant (AMA), Graduate Management Accountant (GMA), Management Accounting Affiliate (MAA), Student Membership and Honorary Membership.
  • The admission requirements (in terms of qualification and experience) varies for each grade of membership. Honorary membership are conveyed by the Institute to distinguished persons whose services to Management Accounting and related disciplines merit this award of membership.
  • A non-refundable Application fee of A$27.50 now applies for new members. Please submit this along with your application (Bank Draft, Visa, MasterCard acceptable).
  • Once a member has been accepted by the Membership Committee, a once-off joining fee of A$55 is applicable to cover the cost of the membership certificate and associated joining fees.

Membership Requirements:
The admission requirements (in terms of qualification and experience) varies for each grade of membership.

  • For Certified Management Accountant membership – completed the CMA Program and must have at least five years approved experience in a senior and responsible Management Accounting position is required.
  • For Associate Management Accountant membership – must have at least three years approved experience is required.
  • For Graduate Management Accountant membership – must have a minimum education standard of a degree from a university or equivalent educational institution in accountancy or a related discipline.
  • For Management Accounting Affiliate – no management accounting experience is required. It has open entry for those with either 2 years supervisory managerial experience or 3 years of running one's own business. This category of members would be required to undertake an approved continuing professional development (CPD) program within 2-years of being granted such membership.
  • Applications for student membership must have a minimum education standard of year 12 or equivalent.
  • Honorary membership are conveyed by the Institute to distinguished persons whose services to Management Accounting and related disciplines merit this award of membership.

ICMA members will be provided with the following services :

  • Membership Certificate recognising qualifications and experience in the specialist field of management accounting
  • The use of post-nominals in the CMA, AMA, GMA and MAA membership categories
  • Up to 6 credit exemptions in many Australian and overseas MBA programs for those successfully completing the Institute’s Education Program
  • Twelve issues per year of the world-class management accounting magazine "Strategic Finance", published by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants (USA)
  • Full access to the CMAWebline.org with links to all associated management accounting web pages around the world
  • Institute's newsletter On Target
  • Access to the Institute’s commissioned research publications
  • Participation in branch and center activities
  • Access to membership in special interest groups
  • Access to a range of Continuing Professional Development opportunities in the leading edge topics of management accounting

We are happy to announce that now you can directly become an ASSOCIATE MEMBER of ICMA, Australia subject to demonstrating more than 3 years of accounting experience.

Member Privileges

On approval of your application, the Institute will award you a calligraphed certificate designating you as an Associate Management Accountant (AMA). You will also get various privileges that include:

The Upgrade Path

Senior accounting professionals can also initially take AMA level membership. At any point of time you can upgrade your status to the post-graduate level Certified Management Accountant (CMA) qualification by attending our exclusive twice-a-year 7-days CMA contact program and subject to passing of 2 university subjects equivalent, conducted at the Masters Degree level. Accounting professionals with more than 10 years of experience are exempt from taking any exams subsequent to their attendance in the CMA course.

The Process

For direct membership, you just need to fill up the enclosed membership application form and courier it to us along with your CV, and a draft (application processing fee inclusive of service tax) We shall process your application once a month and send it to ICMA Australia for membership by 30th of every month.

After approval by their Education Committee, ICMA Australia will directly send you a membership invitation as well as the invoice for membership fee. On receipt of their letter, first year membership is payable by you directly to ICMA through either bank draft or credit card - A$ 209 (for Associate Membership) in favour of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants, Australia. This fee includes one-time student enrollment fee of A$ 55 which is not payable from second year onwards.
